The Pacuare River is world famous for its sheer beauty. A true
river gorge, it is flanked by steep, green cliffs. Wildlife is
abundant, with sloths, toucans, parrots, coatis, morpho butterflies
and colorful frogs being common sights. |
|
The white water on the river is equally exciting. It is not an overly
challenging river, but it has a lot of rapids, giving you a fun filled
adventure. The 18 mile run includes a total of 52 rapids. Few rivers
in the world offer so many.
Between 8:15am-9:00am you will have breakfast at the Exploration Center
in Siquirres and then we head for the river. Upon arrival at the river
we will gear you up with a life jacket, helmet and paddle and then brief
you with a full safety orientation talk. Finally, it is time to take
off down the rapids!
The first 4 miles consist of fun, class II-III rapids which is a perfect
time to test your new river skills and gain confidence in your team.
Here you find pockets of secondary growth forest that are extremely
beautiful. After about 40 minutes we will enter the famous Pacuare River
Gorge, which is 5 miles of some of the best white water Costa Rica has
to offer. The rapids here are "Terciopelo snake", "Double
drop", "Upper and Lower Huacas", "Pin ball"
to name a few. You will also see the Huacas waterfall, a 150 foot dramatic
drop into the river.
After the gorge the river opens up into a 5 mile stretch on the Valle
del Pacuare, where the river has a different character. It is wide open,
which gives you the opportunity to rest a bit and take the opportunity
to do some wildlife spotting. The main rapids here are "Cimarrones",
"The Play Hole", "El Indio" and "Magnetic Rock".
Here we will stop and have delicious lunch (vegetarian options are available)
at a riverside beach.
You finish in Siquirres, at the Exploration Center, where you can take
a shower, change and enjoy the gardens and terrace while having a beer
or two and reflecting with your new friends about the great adventure
you just shared. You will then be transported to La Costa de Papito.
RIO REVENTAZON
This is one of Costa Rica's top rivers. It has the hardest commercial
runs in the country, as well as the biggest white water. With over 65kms
(40 miles) of rapids, it has two different sections to choose from:
Pascua and Florida.
The Reventazón is your best choice for late dry season months
(March and April). It maintains very good water levels, as other rivers
start getting really low.
PASCUA SECTION
•Difficulty: Class IV +
•Distance: 24 Km /15 miles
•Number of rapids: 44
•Approximate river time: 4 Hours
•Minimum age: 15 years
•Price: $99 per person. Including breakfast, lunch and transportation
After paddling the Pascua section of the Reventazon River, adventurers
agree that these are the best rapids they have encountered. A
classic, big water run, Pascua is guaranteed to keep you on the
edge of your seat, literally! And when we say big, well, some
of the waves on this run are bigger than the raft!
|
 |
| Rapids like "Dirty Mind", "The Abyss", "Indigestion" and "Horrendito"
are among the fifteen class IV rapids you will run. Big mountain
landscapes including superb views of the nearby Turrialba Volcano.
|
|
FLORIDA SECTION •Difficulty: Class
II -III
•Distance: 16 Km /10 miles
•Number of rapids: 18
•Approximate river time:2 2/1Hours
•Minimum age: 9 years
•Price: $79 per person. Including breakfast, lunch and transportation
A great big water run, with moderate difficulty. The lush surroundings,
abundant bird life and a good amount of fun rapids makes this
a great introduction to river running. This run is clearly divided
in two halves. The first hour is very exciting, with big waves
and long rapids.
|
We stop for a first class buffet lunch and picnic at the prettiest
beach on the river. The second half is more relaxed as the river enters
the lower Caribbean region and the surroundings take on a jungle character
and the wildlife is more plentiful. At the end we take you to our Exploration
Center, where you can change, shower and relax. You will then be transported
to La Costa de Papito.

from the entrance of the farm, we will enjoy one of the most spectacular
cables (285 meters at 80 meters altitude). |

This will carry us directly to the heart of the forest where we will
begin a guided walk by one of our nature guides, becoming aquainted
with the flora and the fauna of the primary forest in the way the community
utilizes these plants. After the hike we arrive at another platform
to continue our adventure. Our Canopy is done by 9 aerial platforms
and 14 on land amounting 2560 meters of cable. From the moment we climb
to the 8th platform, we will not return to touch the ground until the
final run at which time we will cross over with a birds eye view of
the jungle. Our nature guide continues explaining on each platform the
curiosities which are found in the environment. On the highest platform
we will take a break, where you will be served fruits and drinks. At
the end of the aerial run, we have the possibility to make a descent
from the last platform, rappelling, by a Tarzan swing or by a cable
